Biniding technique project
In this group project, we explored sustainable design through material experimentation, focusing on creating functional everyday objects with minimal environmental impact. My contribution involved designing and crafting an iPad stand using cork as the primary material due to its lightweight, durable, and eco-friendly properties. I approached the construction with a hands-on method, using the binding material itself as thread to join the pieces, allowing the design to remain cohesive, flexible, and fully recyclable. This process not only emphasized resourcefulness but also pushed me to think critically about form, structure, and sustainability. Collaborating with the group allowed for a dynamic exchange of ideas, but this particular outcome reflects my individual approach to problem-solving and making.
Tessellations
As part of a collaborative design project, I worked with a team to explore the creative application of tessellation patterns inspired by underwater themes to conceptualize and prototype a functional product. My focus was on translating organic floral motifs into repeating geometric patterns and experimenting with various binding and prototyping techniques such as burning, stitching, and gluing. Through several rounds of trial and error, we explored material behavior and refined our final concept: a decorative lampshade constructed using acrylic sheets, shells, and metal wire. My contributions included ideating tessellation forms, testing materials, and participating in the hands-on making process—from carving acrylic to assembling components. The project emphasized teamwork, material experimentation, and design detailing, resulting in a visually compelling product that blends form, function, and marine-inspired aesthetics.
Foosball table
As part of a group project, I contributed to the design and creation of a football table, using the method of topic question mapping to guide our design research. This process involved breaking down one broad question into smaller, focused inquiries, which helped us understand the core issues more clearly and approach the problem with greater clarity. From my perspective, this method was key to identifying hidden challenges and connecting different ideas, allowing us to see the bigger picture. It encouraged us to think more creatively and systematically, leading to a more thoughtful and engaging design. Through this approach, we explored important aspects such as materials, durability, user interaction, and product lifecycle. The insights gained allowed us to refine our concept and develop a fun, user-friendly football table that responds meaningfully to both user needs and environmental considerations. This project not only strengthened my collaborative and problem-solving skills but also deepened my understanding of how research-led design can shape more innovative outcomes.
